Today’s Tip – Keep Your Cell Phone Dry in the Theme Park

A day at the theme park can turn from fantastic to sucky in a matter of minutes if someone in your group has their cell phone ruined while riding a water ride.    A lot of people don’t even think about what they’re going to do with their electronic devices during water rides until they are standing in line.  There are some people that go to the other extreme and shell out the cash for a waterproof pouch like that manufactured from PanBo.

I like the diver’s pouch by PanBo and I may just buy a couple but in the meantime I will continue to use the same little trick I learned from my mother years ago.  Ziplock Baggies.  My kids always complain but they’re grateful I take them when their cellphones still work at the end of the day.

When we arrive at the park I make everyone take 2 baggies, fold them up flat and shove them in their pocket.  When it comes time to ride the rapids I put my cellphone, camera and credit cards in a baggie.  Then  I fold it nice and tight and smooth around the outside shape of it all and zip it closed.  I take that baggie and turn it upside down, zipper down, and put it inside the other ziplock baggie.  Voila!  no matter what, unless I go swimming, my electronics are kept dry.

I wouldn’t use this method to go completely underwater but for the log jammer or rapid rides it works perfectly.  I like to smooth out the air bubbles in the bags to make it more airtight.  I’ve even stuck the whole thing into the pocket of my husband’s shorts, he has bigger pockets!
